Five Foods in Nigeria Owambe
In Nigeria, we love partying with loud music, tasty food, accessorized aso ebi and gele. Asides from aso ebi, food is one of the factors that makes a Nigeria party to be called a owambe. Let's just say, owambe food is one of the reasons why some people attend owambe in the first place. There are some particular meals that you can't miss in owambe. These meals must be served in owambe if not people will be disappointed. The following meals are arranged according to their rank in owambe
JOLLOF RICE: This is the most sought after meal. Mehn! Party jollof rice can even taste better than the one made in the house. Yeah! I said it. Don't tell me you haven't at any point craved party jollof before. One of the reason why jollof rice is the most demanded meal in owambe is because it is not stressful. It is very easy to dive your spoon into a plate of steaming jollof rice and eat. Owambe jollof is sometimes accompanied with moi moi, chicken or beef and plaintain.
AMALA, EWEDU AND GBEGIRI: Don't be surprised when you see slay mamas with their neatly pedicure nails digging it deep inside a bowl of amala, ewedu and gbegiri. Jollof rice is the king of owambe food but amala is competing closely with jollof rice. One of the reasons why some people prefer amala is because they want something different from the rice they eat almost every time.
SMALL CHOPS: You might go to some owambe and small chop will be absent. Small chops are not served in all parties so don't be surprised. Small chops are appetizer before the main meal is served and they include samosa, spring roll, stick meat, gizzard and puff-puff. They are usually tiny and they are served in minimal quantity. It is usually accompanied with chilled cocktail drinks.
POUNDED YAM: In owambe, pounded yam is for selected individuals. These individuals are usually the chairman of the ceremony, host or parents of the host. It is a VIP meal. If you are not a VIP in a ceremony, you might not be entitled to pounded yam. It is one of a party delicacy that you can't get enough of. Pounded yam could be served with efo riro or egusi with assorted meat. Please do not use spoon to eat pounded yam or any swallow in a party. It is an unspoken abomination. Use your bare hand; it makes the food tastier than usual. *winks*
OFADA AND FRIED SAUCE: Ofada rice and fried sauce is a limited edition in owambe. This combination just made it to the league of owambe specials. The demand of ofada rice and fried sauce has become so high that it is now a "hot cake" in parties. The sight of the fried sauce with piece of fish, ponmo and beef is mouth-watering. Gosh! I'm beginning to salivate.
Let me put a stop to this before I begin to crave for different party foods. A quick question, which of these meals do you order for when you're in a party?. Drop your answer inside the comment section.
