4 Duties of a Best man in a Wedding

 

Congratulation Mister Best Man, you were chosen because you are capable enough to hold that position. My brother, a great honour has been confered to you. A lot of people don't know that heavy is the head that wears the crown. The office of the best man comes with a lot of responsibilities before, during and after the wedding.

As the head of the groomsmen, you have some delegated duties. You were not given that responsibility just to dab the face of the groom with a handkerchief when he is sweating in the church or hall. Below are some of your duties as a best man.

1 SELECTION OF THE GROOM'S CLOTHING

Just like the maid of honour, the best man helps the groom in selecting an item of befitting clothing for the occasion. As the best man, you need to make sure that the groom gets the same suit or attire he discussed with  the bride. He also helps to select a design or colour for the groomsmen clothing. He goes with the groom for fittings until the cloth becomes perfect for the groom. He also ensures that the other guys get their clothes at the right time.

2 ORGANIZING OF BACHELOR'S EVE.

The best man gets the groomsmen together and decides on how the groom will spend his last night as a bachelor. He delegates duties to each of the groomsmen to make the planning easier. To ensure the success of the party, he supervises every delegated duty assigned to each of the groomsmen. Most of the time, bachelor's eve is done with the knowledge of the groom. Mister Best man, your duty in this scenerio is to stick to whatever concept the groom wants for the party. Don't go out of your way to surprise him and end up pissing him off by doing what he doesn't want.

3 RING KEEPER

The best man is the vault that keeps the precious seal of love (ring). He keeps it for twenty four hours or more till he hands over the ring to the groom when he is asked by the groom. In a situation whereby there is a ring bearer,  he hands the ring over to the child and supervises from afar because the ring has to make it to the groom.

4 GIVES A TOAST ON THE WEDDING DAY

During the wedding, the best man gives a speech and gives a toast in honour of the newly wedded couple. During the speech and toast, it's okay for you to talk about your friendship with the groom. In your speech, remember to give the bride some credit also. The toast is not for the groom only, it is for both of them. Well, this is usually done in the western countries.
