Must Read: 6 Fashion Week Etiquette

There are several fashion weeks and shows slated for this year like African Fashion Week-London, Lagos Fashion and Ready-To-Wear Garment Exhibition e.t.c. Most of us haven't been opportune to attend sophisticated events like a fashion week except for the ones organized in our schools and local communities. When I was in school, there was a “fashion show” we did as a departmental practical for a course called DRA 307. As untrained models, we "walk the walk" on an elevated stage in our beautiful apparels just to get extra marks.

A lot of people must have attended a “DRA 307” fashion show one time or another in their lives where the organizers try their possible best for these shows to be of great standard but most of the time, they don’t meet up to the expected standard. The standard are tamped with because of the environment, audience and objective.

This is the main reason why a newbie needs some tips on fashion shows that are sort of sophisticated because these organizers are not here to play o

Etiquette 1 #Be Fashionably Late

Yeah! I know this is your first time in Lagos fashion week. The ticket you got was from a friend who is working on the crew at the event. Anxiety kicks in and you can't contain your excitement anymore that led you to arriving at the venue two hours before the arrival time. Sweetheart, I am glad to inform you that you just made a wrong move because you would end up setting up the venue without getting paid, just kidding though. If I were you, I would be fashionably late. Fashion shows like this are known for not starting early. My dear, don't be an early bird. Just arrive 30minutes after the arrival time.

Etiquette 2 #Sit At Your Designated Seat

In fashion shows, seats are always reserved for VIPs and certain individuals and those seats are mostly in the front row. It's better to respect yourself and sit in the seat you are ushered in, even though you can't get a nice view from there. You would be embarrassed when you are asked to stand from a seat that has been allocated to your favorite celebrity.

Etiquette 3 #Don't Stray Backstage

Backstage are mostly reserved for the models, it is like a green room where they relax, dressup and makeup before coming on stage. Fashion week is not like Mr and Miss Fresher that you can just go and backstage and snap with your friend because she is one of the contestants. The backstage is reserved for specific people. Even as crew, if you don't have any business backstage, you won't be allowed. Don't stray backstage when you are looking for the restroom so that you won't be bounced out

Etiquette 4 #Keep It Cool

This type of events attracts a lot of celebrities like bloggers, influencers, fashion icons, stylist, artists, actors e.t.c. The proximity between you and your favorite might cause you to drool but please be calm, keep it cool and maintain a certain distance. These people are also on a mission of networking, they might embarrass you if you pose as a form of distraction to their mission.

Etiquette 5 #Party Crashers

“Mo gbo, mo branch geng”, this is for you. If you turn up in a show without an invite, you will definitely be sent back home. This is not owambe that you can breeze in without invitation. Its better you stay back home and watch the show on T.V. Infact, you would get “a classic front row view” with a seat labeled for you alone. Though there are occasions whereby the show might be free.

Etiquette 6 #Adhere to the rules of the show

Every show have their rules and regulations. No matter how insignificant the rules may look, they are expected to be adhered to. As long as you are in that vicinity, if the rule is disobeyed you might be asked to leave the show.

This is not all that there is to a fashion show, there are still many more rules to obey. We are putting a full stop here today. Yo people, hope you haven’t forgotten that I’m not just a blogger.
