“I Don't Want a Bridal Shower”: The Three Concepts of a Bridal Shower

“I don’t want a bridal shower”. Abisola  slams her hand on the table furiously. 

After a very long day at work, Bisola meets up with her five best friends at Pizza Joint to unwind, talk about work, office gossip, latest trends and most especially plan Bisola’s wedding which is in three months time. 

These friends made it a tradition to do this everyday. Distance has never been a barrier as Tomiwa joins the meeting through video call because she was out of the country.

“Why are you making an issue out of this? What exactly is wrong with having a bridal shower”. Joy asks Bisola confusedly. “because it is cliché”, Bisola shrugs. 

“So madam, you want to ruin the fun for us because you think it’s cliché?. Listen, a thing is cliché when it is done the same way it has always been done”, very slowly and intentionally, Suwa eats her pizza hoping that she has been able to change Bisola’s mind.

Tomiwa cuts in, “I need help with my presentation o, I'm tired”, “Wo Tomiwa you go read o, you no get choice, we can’t help you, this no be Dra401” Adesuwa said amidst her laugher. 

Bisola couldn’t contain her laugher also “ Sha don’t fail, they should not say the only black person among us is olodo”. Everyone laughed forgetting the issue on ground. 

Bolu faced Joy squarely as if she were the only one in the room, “Joy as the Event Planner, what do you think can be done to have a bridal shower that is not "cliché"..what are the odds?”.

 “The type of bridal shower you have depends on your budget and personality. I could give some suggestions though”. “Okay, we’re listening”, Bisola replied reluctantly.

BOOK/MOVIE SHOWER

If you are a bride who loves reading and watching movie, chances are that you’ll like to share your hobby with others by having a book or movie shower. You can get your guest to play dress up by dressing up like one of their favourite character in the movie or book. 

Another idea is to have a discussion after seeing the movie or reading the book. Ask important question about the plot, villain, protagonist, favourite line, it will be fun with a bowl of popcorn.

HOME SPA SHOWER

Another type of bridal shower that is becoming increasingly popular is a spa shower. If you are in for relaxation, extra fun and something enjoyable for everyone, then this is what you are looking for.

A spa shower can be held in a hotel or lounge where they provide the services. There are different types of spa treatments, it all depends on how much you are willing to spend.

COCKTAIL/BAR SHOWER

Please think of your budget if you are going to host a shower in a bar. There are different types of bar, make sure you pick the one that is suitable for a shower. 

Let the bartender know your budget before ordering for drinks, this will help to keep both your guests and you in check. Also inform your guests that if they are ordering a drink higher than the initial budget, they are on their own.

“You are welcome”, Joy heaved a breath of satisfaction after her explanation, “nobody said thank you”, Tomiwa rolled her eyes playfully.

 “I will have a bridal shower on one condition” Bisola smiled mischievously, she was up to something.

 “We will have the shower in a strip club” she shouted excitedly and they all laughed.
